James has a skills library with 300 downloadable skills in it. Ask him what most of them do, and he can’t tell you. That’s the confession this video opens with — and it’s the reason he stopped building skills entirely.
“You’re not tool poor. You’re outcome rich and you don’t know it.”
The Skills Library Became the Overwhelm
Every new AI tool, every new model, every “here’s the skill you need” video adds one more thing to remember. James’s honest answer: he can’t keep up with the skills he already built, let alone the ones he’s told he should build next. Managing 10, 50, or 150 individually-named skills is a full-time job on its own — and it isn’t the business.
One Agent, Not One More Tool
The shift: stop asking “what’s the best skill for this?” and start having a conversation with one agent who already knows your business — your employees, your org chart, your outcomes. James calls his Dean. He doesn’t write skills anymore, doesn’t look at skills, doesn’t run slash commands. He just talks to Dean about what he wants done.
“It’s not about using and asking for a skill to be used. It’s like bringing someone into your office that knows your business, that knows your staff, that knows the way that you do things.”
You Manage an Agent Differently Than a Person
With a real hire, you tend to ease in — smaller tasks first, careful feedback, a relationship to build. With Dean, James just says “fix the thing” and moves on. There’s no ramp-up period and no relationship to manage — just instructions that get corrected and remembered.
The Difference Is Business Context, Not Business Cards
The single agent works because of MCP (model context protocol) connections into real systems — James’s WordPress site, CRM, and email — so it isn’t generating generic text, it’s acting on his actual data: who logged in this month, who hasn’t opened an email, who bought before and hasn’t since.
It’s a Business Agent, Organized Like a Business
James’s setup has departments — marketing, sales, education, community, admin, lead generation — each staffed with employees he never talks to directly. He talks to Dean. Dean routes the work.
