The four-option structure with one plausible-but-wrong option is important. Questions where the wrong answers are obviously silly do not test understanding. The plausible-but-wrong option — the one that represents a common misconception or a reasonable-sounding shortcut — is what separates students who genuinely understood the lesson from those who guessed.
After Claude generates the questions, review each one for two things: would a student who watched the lesson but did not really engage with the concept still get it right? If yes, the question is too easy. Would a student who genuinely understood the lesson get it wrong due to ambiguous wording? If yes, rewrite the question. Claude can help with both reviews if you paste the questions back and ask it to flag these failure modes.
What This Means for Educators
Well-designed quiz questions serve a purpose beyond testing. In a cohort or live program context, a quiz at the end of a module gives students a clear signal of where they stand before the live session — which questions they got wrong tell you what to address, and students arrive knowing what they are uncertain about rather than pretending they understood everything.
