Fix the draft, then fix the agent. That is the two-step response to any content the agent produces that misses. Edit the specific piece for publication. Then identify exactly what went wrong — a phrase it overuses, a structural habit that does not fit your style, a tendency to hedge when you want directness — and add a specific standing instruction to the system prompt. You are not just fixing this draft; you are training the agent so the next draft has that problem already solved.
Why “Fix It and Move On” Wastes the Learning
When an agent produces something that is not quite right and you edit it manually without updating the agent’s instructions, you will edit the same problem again next week. And the week after. The editing never gets lighter because the agent never learns from your corrections. You are treating the symptom repeatedly instead of treating the cause once.
The better loop is: notice the problem, name it precisely, write a corrective instruction, add it to the system prompt. That one-time update eliminates the problem from every future output. Five minutes of system prompt maintenance saves 20 minutes of editing per week, compounded indefinitely.
How to Write a Useful Corrective Instruction
The key is specificity. “Be more natural” is not a useful instruction. “Do not start sentences with ‘Furthermore,’ ‘Moreover,’ or ‘Additionally'” is. “Sound less formal” is not useful. “Use contractions consistently. Write ‘you’re’ not ‘you are.’ Write ‘it’s’ not ‘it is.'” is.

Keep a running “corrections” section at the bottom of your system prompt where new instructions accumulate. Review it every month and consolidate any that overlap. Over time this section becomes a precise, hard-won description of your voice that no generic AI prompt could ever produce from scratch.

The content agents that consistently produce great output are not better models — they are better configured. The educators who get the most out of their agents are the ones who treat each correction as a calibration step, not a frustration. After eight to ten correction cycles, most agents are producing drafts that need 10 to 15 minutes of light editing per piece rather than a full rewrite. That is the calibration payoff.
